چکیده

(In vitro somatic embryogenesis and adventitious root initiation have a common origin in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)). Somatic embryogenesis was induced from cotyledon explants of eggplant cultured on MS medium supplemented with 54 μM NAA. Anatomical analysis of somatic embryo initiation and development was performed during the first four weeks. Proembryo formation was observed after the second day of culture, directly from perivascular cells or via pro-embryogenic masses derived from indeterminate meristematic masses (IMMs) originated in the vascular tissue. Those IMMs also gave rise to root primordia after 10 days of culture. The origin of embryos is discussed as well as the similarities between somatic embryogenesis and adventitious root formation.

PLANT REGENERATION IN EGGPLANT (Solanum melongena L.) A REVIEW

Eggplant is highly responsive to various tissue culture techniques. Somatic embryogenesis and direct organogenesis are widely studied protocols in this crop, but potential of regeneration varies with genotype, explant and culture media supplemented with different combination and concentration of growth hormones. The genotype is the most important factor affecting somatic embryogenesis and organ...

(Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.): tissue culture, genetic transformation and use as an alternative model plant). Eggplant is an agronomically important non-tuberous solanaceous crop grown primarily for its large oval fruit. In popular medicine, eggplant is indicated for the treatment of several diseases, including diabetes, arthritis, asthma and bronchitis. Eggplant is susceptible to a number o...

INDUCTION OF SYMMETRICAL NUCLEUS DIVISION AND MULTI-NUCLEATE STRUCTURES IN MICROSPORES OF EGGPLANT (Solanum melongena L.) CULTURED IN VITRO

A modification of a protocol used to induce tobacco microspore embryogenesis was tested in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). In tobacco, uninucleate microspores are subjected to stress treatment by culturing in mannitol containing “B” medium at 33°C for six days. The microspores are then transferred to maltose containing AT3 medium for further development. In the experiment presented here late u...

Eggplant origins: Out of Africa, into the Orient

The eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), also known as aubergine or brinjal, has been cultivated for centuries in the Old World and is currently a crop species of global importance. Despite this, hypotheses of eggplant evolution have been fraught with controversy. Previous conclusions have relied solely on morphological characters or have been based on insufficient taxonomic sampling, leading to co...

Dynamics of Calcium during In vitro Microspore Embryogenesis and In vivo Microspore Development in Brassica napus and Solanum melongena

Calcium is widely known to have a role as a signaling molecule in many different processes, including stress response and activation of the embryogenic program. However, there are no direct clues about calcium levels during microspore embryogenesis, an experimental process that combines a developmental switch toward embryogenesis and the simultaneous application of different stressing factors. ...
